A 'drop white pot red' method is the safest way to get to the top and the risk of you breaking down is much less than if you play a drop cannon. If you have an easy white middle-pocket loser, it is a fairly simple process to drop the white behind the billiard spot. Then pot the red in a manner to send your cue ball to a suitable position for top of the table.
