Play yourself in
It is unrealistic to expect to immediately get used to the table and the conditions. At the beginning of a match take your time and play to large margins of error. It is no use playing a very delicate cannon when you are doubtful of the throw of the balls.
Make sure that you score
As you get used to the conditions you can start to play to finer margins. Nevertheless it normally does not pay to take on risky shots.
