Before completing the playing test you should have achieved 70% or better on the 10-question multiple choice quiz.

Test

Part One

The first part of the playing test begins with the pot red into the middle to leave a middle cross loser. With your opponent’s ball off the table, begin with a pot red into the middle pocket. Set the red about 29 inches (74 cm) from the baulk line and about 12 inches (30 cm) from the side cushion. The position does not need to be exact but the red should be a reasonable distance from the middle pocket so that you can pot it to leave a middle cross- loser. From this middle cross-loser, try to bring the red back to the middle pocket area. At this point stop the break and repeat the exercise. Record your results for ten attempts; you should be able to complete this break of six points on at least two occasions.

Part Two

With your opponent’s ball off the table, begin with a stun pot red into the top pocket. Set the cue ball at a position of your choice so that you can pot it and stun for the middle cross-loser. From this middle cross-loser, try to bring the red back to the middle pocket area. At this point stop the break and repeat the exercise. Record your results for five breaks; you should be able to complete this break of six points at least once.

Now repeat a similar process, this time setting the red on the spot and the cue ball at a position of your choice so that you can pot the red and follow through off the side cushion, leaving the middle cross-loser. Record your results for five breaks; you should be able to complete this break of six points at least once.

To complete this Section you should be able to complete the two-shot sequences at least 4 times out of 20. Although bringing the red to the middle pocket area is not assessed, try to do this!
