Recovery Cannons
General Points
These recovery cannons need a lot of care. Although the cannon is a certainty, there is a reasonable amount of difficulty with the shot in order to get ideal position afterwards.
Standard shot
Play this standard shot with a touch of side as required to push the white to the correct position. In this case, running side is used, which helps push the white and leave a good potting angle.
Slip through shot
Beware this shot as it can easily go wrong. If the angle is suitable, the best method of playing it is as shown, with check side so that the cue ball glances off the far side of the white. Using running side off the far side of the white is more risky as the side will tend to throw the white in the same direction as the cue ball, risking a cover.
Practice Targets
| Beginner | 1/10 | This is a tricky shot to get all three balls in the position that is good. |
| Club Player | 3/10 | An average player will get out of position more often than not on these shots. |
| Professional | 8/10 | Top players are reasonably proficient at these cannons but sometimes get out of position after the 'Slip through cannon'. |
Remember
