Standard Cannons

General Points

The standard cannons in Easy Top are easy to make but it is important to get the correct contact on the red to then hardly move the white and leave a good potting angle on the red. If the white is moved too far it will not be long be for the Easy Top scoring position is lost.

Standard cannon

Set the balls up as shown and practice the cannon. Normally a touch of running side is needed to throw the red towards the pocket. The running side allows you to contact the red a little bit thicker and still leave a good potting angle for the next shot. It is important to just graze the white. After each cannon, play the pot and see if you are now in position to play either another cannon or a pot.

Moving the cue ball around

Try moving the cue ball to different positions and see if you can make the cannon, again just grazing the white and leaving a good potting angle. When you are slightly out of position for the ideal cannon, try experimenting with touches of side to leave a good angle on the red.

Practice Targets

Beginner 2/10

Success rate for these cannons is all about the end position and surprisingly, will be very low at first. This is one of those shots that is impossible to miss but very difficult to get right

Club Player 5/10

An average player will get out of position for quite a few of these shots.

Professional 10/10

Top players will almost always get in the correct position for the pot red after the cannon.

Remember

  • Hit the red thick to take the pace out of the cue ball
  • Use a touch of running side on most cannons

Common Mistakes

  • Hitting the white too hard, usually because of hitting the red to thin
  • Leaving a potting angle that takes the cue ball away from the top cushion
